the Internet is dumb/a post in which I use a line from an Embrace song, just cause I can

So sick of Facebook. It seriously makes me dislike my friends. I really don't need to know, much less care, about the minutiae of their lives. Do they care about me to that degree? I think not. So why do they think I should care about them? Selfish motherfuckers.

edit: It's really about the signal-to-noise ratio. You post a lot of cool shit, you're allowed to say something dumb about your life every once in a while. That's not offensive. I'm talking about the folks that post nonstop about things that really don't matter to me or really to anyone else.

Yup. Pretty much.

It's so weird to live in a society where having an online presence is ubiquitous. I prefer the old style of communication where I could still pretend that not everyone was a fecking idiot.

and that's why i still write letters.

You are too interested in my haircut!

[identity profile] corvus.livejournal.com 2011-01-27 05:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Haircuts are important! Posting every few hours stuff like "I'm hungry/It's snowing out/I miss people/Work is boring" is not important. Also, if you posted about your haircut every day I would also be annoyed. Thankfully, you post, like, once a week?

[identity profile] julip.livejournal.com 2011-01-27 10:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Sometimes twice!

I have a coworker who was on the three-posts-a-day plan. I'm so happy she has a new boyfriend who keeps her occupied.

I will sometimes do that but none of it is personal and most is interesting and hopefully unique to much of the FB content.

I edited the post to reflect a more fair and less annoyed opinion.

That's one thing that LJ lets you do. Editing is awesome.

EMBRACE. Ok this was a good post.

[identity profile] corvus.livejournal.com 2011-01-27 08:55 pm (UTC)(link)
So what you're saying is you 'liked' it?

[identity profile] ergotismus.livejournal.com 2011-01-27 09:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Livejournal > Facebook

[identity profile] corvus.livejournal.com 2011-01-27 10:15 pm (UTC)(link)
So much so. FB is good if I want to share something stupid or a piece of news or information about a show. But there's no real thought that goes into it. That's why it's so popular.

I'M POOPIN

[identity profile] cavorite.livejournal.com 2011-01-27 10:55 pm (UTC)(link)
I know, I'm really behind the times. If I was cool I'd have Gowalla check me in on the shitter and post it to facebook for me.

[identity profile] corvus.livejournal.com 2011-01-28 12:55 am (UTC)(link)
That would be incredible. And totally heinous.

[identity profile] corvus.livejournal.com 2011-01-28 07:17 am (UTC)(link)
I like that it's Gowalla checking you in and not the other way around. That's technology for you.

once upon a time, i took a photo of every poop i took and posted it to LJ. sometimes i wish i kept it up for longer than i did, but in reality i got bored of it.

for real. Although possibly I am one of those people for you. that is, in fact, why I logged in to read here. I miss people and am interested, but not that interested and

-omg we have ants in room. from where?

-third world hippie junior laundry = washing machine, water haulin = slightly less terrible than 18th century laundry

-mango shaped candle, smells like mango?

also I am still not sure the best way to read updates I care about. suggestions? getting the groups thing really really well done seems like a lot of work and knowing how to share the right stuff to the right people, ditto. I'm trying to work on knowing how best to download music, people.

Also sharing of links is disconcerting to me. There are so many interesting links, and my friends are infinitely flawed at finding all of them (who can?) yet better than me. Answer?

In closing, been sick all month. what's next month's theme?

I think there's a way to block "news feed" from certain people. When the noise/signal ratio gets really high, that's what I do.

(For the record, no, I didn't block you this way. It was worth it just to see the Atlas Shrugged trailer.)
