Apr. 10th, 2006 12:04 amUgh! Nothing like a room full of teenagers dancing to terrible American booty music to put a damper on your night. At least the bat mitzvah festivities are now officially over.

Carey and I have been doing a lot of walking. Tomorrow is another day of the same. On Wednesday we're going to the zoo. On Thursday we might be going up to the Blue Mountains, which should be fun. Bondi is full of tourists and Jews. No, seriously. It's slightly bizarre and off-putting.

Being Uncle Yoni is great. I always enjoy it a lot more than I expect to.

I still haven't run into the punx. I'm getting desperate. We went to the local infoshop on Thursday, but it was closed. Tomorrow we're going back into Sydney and hopefully we'll end up hitting up some record stores, etc. It's impossible to find out about shows online. There was a take back the streets-style demo the other day, but it went on while we were celebrating my niece's bat mitzvah.
This afternoon I picked up some sweet records at a flea market-like event a couple blocks from the hostile hostel. I got an Aussie-only Decca release Rolling Stones LP, an Aussie copy of Rubber Soul in mono (cover in shit condition, vinyl looking to be around a VG+ or so?), the "La Cucaracha" EP on crazy colored vinyl from 1976, a Cabaret Voltaire double LP, and Malcolm Mclaren doing Madame Butterfly (what what?!), all for approximately $16. I'm excited. When I get back, I'll probably end up taking everything but the Cabaret Voltaire and heading down to Philly Record Exchange and trading them in for something I really want.

There's no tipping in Australia. The wages workers receive are a lot better than those at comparable positions in the States. While I like the fact that I know exactly how much I'll be paying for my food, it's still, I don't know, a weird feeling, kind of like having to look the wrong direction when crossing the street because the cars drive on the wrong side of the road. It's not a bad thing. It's just, like before, really off-putting.
