'Body Of Christ" Returned To Church After Student Receives Email Threats

Orange County, FL -- One week after a University of Central Florida student snatched something sacred from church, armed UCF police officers stood guard during Sunday Mass to protect what Catholics call "The Body of Christ."

Minutes before the Mass began, Student Senator Webster Cook returned the Holy Eucharist he was holding hostage in a Ziploc bag ever since smuggling the blessed wafer of bread out of the Catholic Mass service Sunday June 29.

Carol Brinati with the Diocese of Orlando said the Catholic community was "concerned about the possible desecration of the Eucharist," and pleaded for its safe return.

Cook, who was raised Catholic, said he decided to bring the Eucharist home after a church leader tried to physically pry it from his hand. Cook broke Church rules by failing to consume it immediately during communion and then removing it from his mouth once seated.

Cook said he just wanted to show the Eucharist to a friend he brought with questions about Catholicism before consuming it. But outraged Catholics across the globe didn’t believe him and suspected he intended all along to steal the Eucharist and bloggers sent out e-mail messages damning him to Hell.

[livejournal.com profile] purveyorofchaos just called to tell me that the cops came and towed her car from her driveway. They thought it was stolen, since she reported it as such early this morning, but it had only been misplaced due to a series of stupid events and at least a couple beers. After recovering the car this afternoon, she called the cops back and the non-emergency line operator told her that in order to close the case, a police officer would be coming by to get a statement. She went to take a nap and when she woke up, her car was gone. Apparently the officer - who I assume didn't get the memo that the car had been found? - came by her house, saw the car, ran the plates, and when it turned up stolen, had it towed. Although the car isn't registered to the same address where [livejournal.com profile] purveyorofchaos lives, her address and phone number were taken down when she spoke to the police the first time. And the cop was coming by to take a statement about a stolen car, one that was parked in the driveway of the house where the person who reported the car stolen lives. I'm so flabbergasted. There is no reason for this to happen. [livejournal.com profile] purveyorofchaos and her mom are currently on their way to get the car back from the towing company. I'm looking forward to hearing what the police say to excuse/explain what happened. What a crock!
