It's fun to wish on space hardware
Mar. 22nd, 2008 03:15 amI'm in NY because it's my mom's birthday this weekend and she flew up from Florida to hang out with friends and relatives and to see the opera. We're going to see Tosca at Lincoln Center tonight. I've never been to the opera before, so I'm pretty excited.
This is my first time out of Philly since I got back from traveling about three weeks ago. I guess it's actually been a month. Scary. My life has become so... ridiculous, depressing, stupid, fun, etc. in the past month. I don't know what to make of it. One thing that has made me really happy is the fact that at least, I don't know, 60 percent of the hanging out I've been doing has been with people that I never hung out with before. Hell, I've even made new friends. New friends are awesome. One of the things I was really scared about was that I would fall into old patterns and just be miserable. Instead, I'm miserable in new patterns! Score.

I'm really braindead but really bored at the same time and so I'm totally not acknowledging the braindead-ness of it all. Just pay no attention to the man behind the curtain and everything will be alright.

The other day in the "Ask me a damn question" thread,
nuhun_ruhu wanted to know the answer to the following question, and I quote: "Have you been outside of the US? If so, what was your favorite trip?" Have I ever been outside of the US,
nuhun_ruhu? Dude, I was fucking born outside of the US, that's how fucking outside the US I am.
But seriously. This is a good question for me to answer because a) It's all ego and therefore I can deal with it in this state of stupid b) It's way easier than, say, her other question, which is about how I make money and make party and make destroy. Sorry, inside joke. The Germans, they don't speak English particularly well, and while the phrase "Tonight we make bar, ja ja" works fine auf Deutch, it makes little sense in English. And you hear it all the time! My friend Mouse actually got, "WE COME GO MAKE DESTROY" tattooed on him in homage to the German spirit of ridiculosity.
Okay, so as everyone who has been reading my journal for more than three months knows, in the past year I undertook a European (plus a little bit in the Middle East) vacation of epic proportions. My first mate*,
purveyorofchaos, and I went to 15 countries. Well, 14 countries and Palestine, which is unfortunately not considered a country yet. We spent the bulk of our time in Berlin, which is as good a home base as you can get, as it's right on the West/East border (Poland, hello), and a lazy day's travel from Copenhagen, Vienna, Warsaw, and all sorts of other awesome places. That and it's definitely the cheapest date you'll find anywhere in Western Europe. Also, the food, drink, and community are awesome.
In alphabetical order, the countries we went to were:
Austria
Croatia
Czech Republic
Denmark
Germany
Hungary
Ireland
Israel
Italy
Latvia
Lithuania
Palestine
Poland
Slovenia
Sweden
So, yeah. That was the most recent trip to non-America. As some of you know, I was born and raised in Israel. Every summer I'd come to the States, to NY, in fact, to visit my grandparents. We would always stop off somewhere along the way (or not so much along the way). There's a lot between Israel and the United States and I'm extremely thankful that my parents were so keen on traveling and seeing new things.
I've been to the following countries (all from trips prior to the one mentioned in the preceding paragraphs): Israel, US, Canada, Mexico, Bahamas, Jamaica, Virgin Islands, Martinique, some other countries in the Caribbean that I can't recall right now, UK, France, Italy, Cyprus (Greek), Netherlands, Egypt, South Africa, Swaziland, Australia... and I think that's it? I feel like there should be more. Next time!
As for the second half of the question... I don't have a favorite trip! Sorry. Even if I wanted to pick one specific trip out of the hat, I don't think I could. I guess I'll just be cheesy and say that my favorite trip is always the next one that I take!
God I'm a hippie sometimes.

* I think I'd prefer to be the first officer, but for the sake of story telling, I'll be James T. motherfuckin' Kirk.
