suvrocI think I had a run-in with the local version of the (yes, I know, fictional) Hebrew Hammer earlier today. I was at the regular Build Bridges Not Walls anti-occupation demonstration and this dude came up to me and he
totally wanted to argue. "Israel is promised for us, for our people.
We live there, not some Arabs," he said. I asked him who the 'we' and 'our' were
that he was talking about. Mind you, I was wearing a big sign that
reads, "Another Israeli against the occupation." He shoved his fist
towards my face: there's a giant Star of David ring on his finger. "The
Jews. It belongs to us. God promised," he bellowed. I smirked and told him that as an Israeli I
could safely say that he wasn't speaking for me. He looked hurt and
confused (and like he didn't read my sign) and then got very angry. "You need to read the Torah," he said.
I guffawed. And he left in a huff.

Also had a couple of Muslims stop and talk to us about how excited they were to see a group protesting for Palestinian rights. One of them also snapped a picture.* Which reminds me, I really, really, really need to update the Web site. In general it was a pretty good demo, even if about 12 of our regulars didn't show up, leaving us with a paltry three people.
Oh, and one dude said while passing us, "The only good Arab is a dead Arab." I told him to have a nice day and that I hoped his hate would consume him from the inside like a cancer. That's appropriate, right?

* Thankfully he couldn't see my "Don't Worry America, Israel is Behind You" t-shirt. My sense of irony rolls deep. That is probably not the case for everyone else.
